India's Construction Boom Creates Vast Opportunities for Greater China Suppliers of Hardware & Building Materials
China Sourcing Fair: Hardware & Building Materials to be held in Mumbai, India November 14-16, 2008 HONG KONG, June18, 2008 – The first China Sourcing Fair: Hardware & Building Materials to take place Nov. 14-16, 2008 in Mumbai, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, plans to harness the great opportunities available in India as it experiences a construction boom. Global Sources (NASDAQ:GSOL) (www.globalsources.com) has licensed the China Sourcing Fair brand to Pico Event Management (www.picoworld.com), a subsidiary of Pico Far East Holdings Limited (SEHK: 0752), and has appointed the company to manage this event.
The market potential in India for hardware and building materials from Greater China is enormous. India has the second-biggest population in the world, with more than one billion people. McKinsey & Company states that nearly a quarter of the population is upwardly mobile middle class, and this is expected to expand to more than 580 million by 2025. And according to the Indian Green Building Council, the construction industry contributed 10 percent to India's GDP of US$1 trillion last year. Greater China is well positioned to be a strong trade partner in the construction of this emerging new India. In 2007 India's total imports jumped by 24.4 percent to US$230 billion, according to The Economist. China is India's leading supplier of imported products and this is due to grow further as the Indian and Chinese governments have recently agreed to raise their bilateral trade target to US$60 billion by 2010. Global Sources' Executive Director, Sarah Benecke, said: "Now is the right time for suppliers from Greater China to move into India and benefit from the country's huge demand for construction materials, tools and equipment. Rapid population growth, rising incomes, emergence of nuclear families, tax incentives and the availability of home loans at competitive rates are all stimulating the growing demand for homes in India. While the expansion of retail chains, shopping centers and hotels means that there is an immense need for commercial buildings. "India is one of four locations where the China Sourcing Fairs are held. By holding Fairs in India, Hong Kong, Dubai and Shanghai, the China Sourcing Fairs are helping exporters to increase their worldwide customer base in the fastest-growing markets, which complements our Global Sources Online with a community of over 700,000 buyers in over 230 countries." Greater China suppliers of building materials; general hardware; wall supplies; floor, door and window supplies; bathroom and kitchen supplies; plumbing, heating and cooling; tools and accessories; industrial safety and law enforcement equipment; lawn and garden; and lighting electrical fixtures and fittings are welcome to join China Sourcing Fair: Hardware & Building Materials.
