| A massive 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern China on May 12, killing more than 69,000 people and leaving about 5 million people homeless.
With over 2,100 team members in 44 locations across mainland China, the Sichuan earthquake is a tragedy that has hit close to home for many of us at Global Sources.
To help victims of the earthquake, the company has matched donations of RMB 1,000,000 from team members for a total contribution of RMB 2,000,000
Donations have been distributed as follows:
RMB 700,000 for the Half the Sky Foundation ( http://www.halfthesky.org ) to provide care for children orphaned by the earthquake
RMB 600,000 to the Red Cross of China ( http://www.redcross.org.cn ), which now has volunteers in the affected areas actively assisting with relief efforts
RMB 500,000 for the China Youth Development Foundation ( http://www.cydf.org.cn/index.asp ) to help rebuild a school in Sichuan province.
RMB 200,000 towards direct local relief efforts
